Simoes is highly influenced by his architectural and design background. He uses a wide range of materials, like Rosanna, to illustrate what he wishes to say; materials he typically uses include wax, paper, maps, silicon, and the processes he uses to edit his images include burning, layering, cutting and distorting. Simoes takes images from different sources and therefore aren’t his own images; to show that these images aren’t his own, he adds a line of colour at the bottom of each photo series. Simoes expresses that “to burn pictures in a way of [physically] erase a memory by burning it, so with time, the image that ir burnt will disappear from your memory”.
